Propolis

Propolis is currently marketed as a helpful antimicrobial agent. It's mode of action is likely to be contraindicated for persons on the MP.

Rather than using this in chewing gum for it's antimicrobial action, using a mouthwash is generally considered to be a better alternative.

Concerns about propolis

Numerous case reports have demonstrated propolis to be a potent allergen and sensitizing agent. Therefore, it should be used cautiously in allergic people. Toxicity with propolis is rare, although there are multiple case reports of skin irritation and itching, as well as blood vessel inflammation.
