ACTIONS There is no specific evidence which clearly establishes the mechanism by which Hydergine® (ergoloid mesylates) preparations produce mental effects, nor is there conclusive evidence that the drug particularly affects cerebral arteriosclerosis or cerebrovascular insufficiency.

PRECAUTIONS Practitioners are advised that because the target symptoms are of unknown etiology, careful diagnosis should be attempted before prescribing Hydergine® (ergoloid mesylates) preparations.

Interactions with Medicines Using this medicine with any of the following medicines is not recommended. Your doctor may decide not to treat you with this medication or change some of the other medicines you take.

  • Almotriptan
  • Azithromycin
  • Clarithromycin
  • Clotrimazole
  • Dirithromycin
  • Efavirenz
  • Erythromycin
  • Fluconazole
  • Fluoxetine
  • Fluvoxamine
  • Fosamprenavir
  • Frovatriptan
  • Indinavir
  • Itraconazole
  • Josamycin
  • Ketoconazole
  • Etc.

Other Medical Problems The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of this medicine. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:

  • Liver disease—Higher blood levels of ergoloid mesylates may occur, increasing the chance of side effects
  • Other mental problems or
  • Slow heartbeat—Ergoloid mesylates may make the condition worse
